“Happy 17th Birthday to AfA Design”. I am genuinely happy to be a member of AFA Design since the first day of our journey. My colleagues and I have altogether gone through the ups and downs. Holding the “solidarity is power” spirit, we have made AfA Design more and more thriving.

These are the words of Mr. Nguyen Quang Trung, an architect who has been working at AfA Design for more than 7 years, and will continue to be a key member of the AfA family for many years to come.

A Struggling Journey

On this day 17 years ago, AfA Design was formerly established under the name AI architecture office. During our very first years, we encountered a lot of difficulties as Vietnamese companies had yet paid much attention to office design, and they had no intention of investing in the appearance of their workplace. The office at that time was just a room with several small areas separated by inelegant partitions. In addition, concepts like creative office design or office branding remained unfamiliar to business owners and their staff. 

However, thanks to that economic development that involves the fusion of domestic and foreign office culture, as well as the rapid emergence of international office branches, the “new wave” of office design has been given a chance to rise in Vietnam. As creative office space is more and more favored and highly appreciated by employees, corporates gradually realize the values and benefits of office design in attracting and retaining talents, as well as promoting their image and elevating their brands. For that reason, AfA Design was founded with a goal to build a creative working environment and create office space experience. Up to now, AfA has become one of the leading office design companies for these practices.

Let's look back on the memorable milestones in the 17 years of AfA Design’s development since established:

2002: AI architecture office established (Precursor of AfA Design)

2005: Designing CDC office building for rent 227 Le Dai Hanh and Hoa Binh tower at 106 Hoang Quoc Viet, one of the first high-rise buildings in Vietnam built by a Vietnamese investor.

2006: AFA Design established

2008: Collaborating with the Dutch architectural consultancy office in developing a transaction space identifier for BIDV offices nationwide, radically changing the banking space mindset from closed to open.

2012: Initiating projects in other countries, starting with the Lao National Assembly Office in Vientiane and Mytel's office in Myanmar

2015: Implementing projects with large corporations based in Vietnam.

2016: Repositioning AFA Design brand

2017: Southern representative branch established in Saigon

2018: Developing and finalizing a 7-step procedure for full and professional interior office design. Setting 7 principles of office interior design, which serve as valuable resources for architects. Becoming a member of the Interior Design Group under the Vietnam Association of Architects.

Moreover, in 2018, AFA Design also cooperated with a team of experts from Hanoi Architecture University to complete the Ebook 360 office space, one of the books that provide the most comprehensive knowledge on interior office design for both corporate customers and architects.

2019: Starting to focus on developing architectural design and expanding the scale of southern and international offices


Moving towards a greater and finer AfA

a 17-year journey is neither long or short to a business. Not all members being present right here, right now, either in the South or the North, have gone through such a journey since the first day. Yet you all surely are the most trustworthy company that enables a thriving presence and a brighter future for AfA Design. AfA in return will also allow you to become outstanding and proud individuals with the achievements of their own and of the company. Happy birthday to AfA, I wish all of you a successful new year. We will together become a leading architecture business, attracting the attention of all Vietnamese corporations on office design, and offering a whole new picture of modern and cost-effective office design.
